It’s About Time was many years in the making. The songs span most of my songwriting career, from Aphrodite (1986) to Time and Experience (2014). There is a lot of love in this album! The songs cover a lot of ground, but carry a common theme of living life fully, engaging to the max in the blink of time we are here. I am grateful to my friends and fellow musicians who put their heart and brilliance into this recording with me. Here’s hoping this music will help you heal, grow, love, and experience your own life more fully.

about

This is my mother's favorite song of mine. I wrote this in 1990 or so, inspired by reading Matthew Fox, an x-Dominican priest and writer who has worked to find the Creation tradition in Christianity. Whatever our spiritual path, there are wise secrets in the Garden, for the Garden is our home, the planet.

lyrics

The Garden
I heard this story from a woman old and wise
I met her in the market by the oranges and limes
She talked about a garden with fruits sweeter still than these
So I dropped my tomatoes and said tell me more please
Her little eyes they crinkled up, cuz she knew the story well
And she’d been there herself from what I could tell

She said the garden is wide and the rock wall is tall
But the roses climb over it with no trouble at all
And you can get back through the gate you once left behind
And sit all day in the green leafy sunshine
And nobody with a sword will keep you away
But you might see some angels flying, if you want to play

And there are many fruits in this garden, many trees
Go ahead and try some of those, and some of these
Each moment is a blessing that you’re tasting on your tongue
Stay in the garden and your spirit will stay young
And do not be afraid if the snake is at your feet
Coiled in circles, that’s just eternity

Well she talked about this place as if we were standing in it now
And I must admit the fluorescent lights had disappeared somehow
And there were no other shoppers picking through the broccoli
Just the faint smell of peaches, this old woman, and me
And sometimes I could just get a glimpse of what she saw so clearly
And feel the kisses of a mango colored breeze

She said the garden is wide and the rock wall is tall
But the roses climb over it with no trouble at all
And you can get back through the gate you once left behind
And sit all day in the green leafy sunshine

about

Elizabeth Hummel Olympia, Washington

I have been writing songs most of my life. A good bit of recording and performing too. Money comes and goes, but the muse is precious and timeless. I pray that my songs help people through darkness as well as celebrate the light. This music is a village and I am not alone. I am deeply grateful to the many people who have helped me birth these songs in so many ways. You are the Love! ... more
